Tale of the Morning Star

Tillamook

The boat in the iconic Tillamook logo has a name: Morning Star. In 1909, the brand's founding farmers built and sailed their first ship, wrecked, and sailed again until they found success.  This is that story, in a sea shanty.

Baby's First Sea Shanty

Was this my first time being asked to write a sea shanty? Yes. Did I let that stop me from completely committing to the bit?

You bet your cheese-lovin' behind I did not.  This was a treat to work on, from start to finish. I think all my years in various choirs and taking music theory for one quarter in college clearly paid off with this masterpiece.

O hear of a tale of a band of men, a love of dairy shared by them. They tilled their land and grazed their cows and made their cheese so bold.

CHORUS:

Land ho! The Morning Star, sharing dairy from afar. The founding farmers knew the way to reach their dairy dreams.

Out at the bay of Tillamook, the farmers took a longing look. Then up in the sky they saw a glint of a star shining so bright.

CHORUS

They fashioned a boat though none of them had any experience sailing then, their determination guided them until they found success.

CHORUS

The founding farmers legacy since 1909 is clear to see and the spirit of the  Morning Star lives on for evermore.

CHORUS

So when you taste this cheese so bold, remember the story you’ve been told of the Morning Star from Tillamook and its band of dairy men.
